The Department of Defense has identified 3,628 American service members who have died since the start of the Iraq war. It confirmed the deaths of the following Americans yesterday:

BUTLER, Rhett A., 22, Cpl., Army; Fort Worth; Second Infantry Division.

SCHERER, Christopher G., 21, Cpl., Marines; East Northport, N.Y.; First Marine Expeditionary Force.

SCHMUECKER, Jacob S., 27, Sgt., Army; Atkinson, Neb.; Nebraska Army National Guard.
